Gout Remedies that Actually Work

For those of us that enjoy our barbecue and an occasional drink with the boys, nothing could be more annoying than an attack of gout. All of a sudden you get an unexplained excruciating pain in the joint of the big toe or the instep of the sole. You try and convince yourself that you must somehow have injured yourself without knowing it. Eventually the pain becomes unbearable and you end up in hospital only for the doctor to give you the most unexpected news, that you have you gout and you should avoid barbecue and scale down on or completely avoid your favorite lager. Most people forget the doctor’s advice as soon as the pain subsides and go back to their bad habits, only for the gout to recur after a few weeks and with greater intensity.

Luckily, there are natural remedies for gout that can allow you to live a normal life and ward off future gout attacks. Initially, you must avoid red meats and animal protein and go on a fast, there are no shortcuts here. You must begin by cleansing your body through a holistic process.

The cause of gout is accumulation of uric acid in the blood stream. Uric acid mainly comes from the animal protein that we eat though even plant foods have some amount of it. Uric acid is primarily excreted by the kidneys which do so at a constant rate. When you over consume foods high in uric acid, the levels in your blood rise, yet the kidneys are excreting it at a constant rate. So you can imagine pumping uric acid into your blood stream through the foods you eat and the organs supposed to excrete it cannot increase their work rate! What happens next is that the body looks for “places” to deposit the excess uric acid and this happens in the joints. The uric acid crystallizes in the joints and the sharp pain begins as the crystals grind together every time the joint moves. Thus, any alternative remedy has got to be aimed at detoxification first. Detoxification should consist of a seven day fast on nothing but orange juice and water.

Once you have detoxified, you can use two proven alternative remedies to keep future gout attacks away. The first is cherries. During your initial recovery period, consume as many as 25 cherries a day. Thereafter, 10 cherries daily will keep your gout in check. The second natural remedy is raw vegetable juices, specifically 100 ml each of beet and cucumber juices mixed in 300 ml of carrot juice to make 500 ml of combined juice. Both of these natural remedies are extremely effective at preventing a recurrence of gout. You can still enjoy barbecue once in a while, the important thing is to live a holistic balanced lifestyle.
