Discover the Amazing Power of Garlic

Garlic may be an essential seasoning that can enhance any culinary experience, but inside the cloves is a unique and powerful ingredient that can prevent and even cure a variety of different ailments. Garlic has been used all over the world for thousands of years to treat and prevent disease, and research has discovered that it actually contains antiviral, antibiotic and antifungal properties.

Garlic (Allium Sativum) is a member of the allium family of vegetables, along with onions, chives, shallots and leeks – elephant or Russian garlic, however, is actually a variant of the species and not seen as true garlic. When garlic is chopped, a powerful chemical called allicin is released. Allicin is an extremely potent agent that helps the body fight off infection – 1 milligram of allicin is actually equivalent to 15 standard units of penicillin, and doesn’t have any side effects. Garlic also contains important vitamins and minerals, and is thought to be most valuable to the body when eaten raw.

In today’s society, where heart disease and cancer are major threats to longevity, garlic has proved to be invaluable. Tests have revealed that garlic may be a key component in treating and even preventing heart disease, as it has been found to be capable of lowering blood pressure, thinning the blood as efficiently as aspirin, and loosening plaque from the artery walls. Research also suggests that garlic can help to fight cancer by neutralizing free radicals and carcinogens, and slowing down the growth of tumours.

Garlic is not just successful in treating serious health conditions either, as it can also treat digestive disorders, diarrhea, stomach ulcers, worms, parasites, skin conditions, and respiratory problems. Garlic can help you lose weight too, as it reduces fat in the body.  In many cultures, garlic is thought to be a powerful aphrodisiac and it is believed that it could be the vegetarian answer to Viagra. It can also help to improve male fertility by increasing sperm count.

Unfortunately, garlic doesn’t have a huge fan club and this is mainly due to it’s rather pungent odor. Even small amounts of garlic can cause halitosis and exude through the pores of the skin. There are, however, less offensive alternatives available on the market which may be worth considering, such as Kyolic odorless garlic supplements with antioxidants. Kyolic is an aged garlic product that is both deodorised and detoxified and doesn’t irritate the digestive tract tissues.

Garlic certainly appears to be an herbal “wonder drug” that simply has to be tried.  So, what are you waiting for?  There’s no time like the present to discover the amazing power of garlic!
